Anatomy of ICD-10

Please join us for this engaging glimpse into the anatomy of ICD-10.  ICD-10-CM differs from ICD-9-CM in its organization and structure, code composition, and level of detail.  This presentation will cover the structure, coding conventions, and guidelines of ICD-10-CM.  The significant differences between the ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding systems will be discussed by system chapters (i.e., Infectious and Parasitic Diseases; Neoplasms; Endocrine, Nutritional and Metabolic Diseases; Mental and Behavioral Disorders; Nervous System; Circulatory System; Respiratory System; Skin and Musculoskeletal Systems; Pregnancy and Childbirth; Perinatal and Congenital Malformations; Injuries and Poisoning; and External Causes).


About the presenter

Weber State University

Pat Shaw is the Chair of the Health Administrative Services Department and Health Information Management (HIM) Program Director at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.  She is currently working on a doctorate in education and has been recognized several times at the University for Outstanding Teaching.  Pat holds a certificate as an AHIMA Trainer for ICD-10-CM and PCS.  She served on the AHIMA Board of Directors from 2007-2009 and currently is chair of the AHIMA Fellowship Review Committee.  She has published several textbooks and made numerous presentations over the years.
