5010 Transition
Steps to take if you use proprietary software
Proprietary software is created and/or maintained by in-house personnel. If your software requires alteration or coding, in-house staff addresses the issue.
- Ensure your software can create ANSI X12 transactions in the 5010 version.
- 5010 implementation guides are currently available (please note that all guides must be purchased):
- Important: implement the errata to the 5010, not just the original 5010 guidelines.
- The errata outline changes to the original guidelines, and must be included in the implementation. For more information, see this press release concerning errata.
- Confirm that your software can handle the new 5010 report types (such as 999, 277CA).
- UHIN Standards applying to version 5010 transactions can be found on our Standards and Specifications page.
- Once your software is ready for testing, contact UHIN (877-693-3071) to set up the UHIN 5010 Acceptance Testing (up to HIPAA level 2).
- Once UHIN 5010 Acceptance Testing has been successfully completed, you may work with individual payers and/or clearinghouses.
Please contact the UHIN Help Desk at 877-693-3071 or customerservice@uhin.org with questions.
