Special 5010 Provider Bulletin: January 24, 2012

This is a special bulletin with important 5010 information.

UHIN Update: Reports
We are continuing to adjust the new UTRANSEND system to ensure timely file processing. If any of your reports are still missing, we recommend that you contact our office at customerservice@uhin.org for research.

Re-sending Claims
If you suspect that your claims are not reaching a payer, please contact UHIN before re-sending the claims. Immediately resending claims increases traffic on payer systems and may cause a delay in processing and/or a resolution.

Capario 5010 Ready
We have received notification from Capario that they are now ready to accept 5010 transactions. If you use a Practice Management system with 5010 capability, you may submit 5010 claims to Capario at this time. If you are using UHIN's 4010 to 5010 step-up service, we are handling this transition for you.

Update Easy Print
Do you use the free Medicare Remit Easy Print software? You may need to download an update to continue to view 835 reports in the software. To update your version of Easy Print so that it can display version 5010 835 files, just follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://www.cms.gov/AccesstoDataApplication/02_MedicareRemitEasyPrint.asp.
  2. Look for the link with version 3.2.2. Click on the link.
  3. Open the file.
  4. When the file opens, double-click on the icon labeled "Medicare Remit Easy Print".
  5. Follow the instructions as prompted. Accept all default options.
  6. When the update is finished, you should see the new version number (3.2.2) at the top of the application window when you open Easy Print.

UHIN HelpDesk Note
The UHIN HelpDesk has been experiencing unusually high call volumes for the last several weeks related to the 5010 transition. This exceptionally large call volume has taxed our phone system, which causes some calls to disconnect after holding for roughly 10 minutes. We realize this is frustrating, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Remember, if you have trouble reaching us by phone, you can always contact us by email at customerservice@uhin.org.

If you have left a message and/or sent an email to us, we are working as quickly as possible to resolve your issues. We have not forgotten you, even though we may not be able to respond within the usual time period. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

UTRANSEND Tip of the Week:
During this time of transition, you may notice that not all your files are displaying in UTRANSEND. Here are a few tips about what to expect:

Eligibility Tip:
If you send electronic eligibility requests (270) through UHINt 2.6, you may need to change the environment in order for the eligibility transaction to successfully transmit. This is a short-term measure, and we will let you know when it is no longer necessary.

To change the environment, use the following steps:

999/997 from UHIN3

Have you received 999 or 997 files from a submitter identified as UHIN3? These are acknowledgement files from UHIN, much like the ones typically sent by payers. With the addition of the new clearinghouse functionality, it is possible that UHIN might reject a file. These files will show as "Bad Docs" within UTRANSEND's reporting tool, and will include the details about the reasons for rejection.

Update on Medicaid Status
Medicaid is accepting HIPAA compliant 5010 claims in production, excluding 837P claims.  Please continue sending 837P claims in the 4010 format until further notice.  All Encounter records, including the 837P, must be submitted in the 5010 format (mailbox HT000004-002).   Utah Medicaid has not finalized the development of the 277CA in response to the 837P; therefore, a 277FE will temporarily be generated on 837P transactions. If you are unable to transmit 5010 transactions, please contact the Medicaid EDI Department (800-662-9651, Opt. 3, Opt. 5, Opt. 2).
