National Participation

UHIN participates on several committees at the national level to keep our members abreast of the latest news. Listed below are a few of the organizations we are monitoring

	ASCX12 - The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12, chartered by the American National Standards Institute in 1979, develops electronic data interchange (EDI) standards and related documents for national and global markets. The standards are created for various industries, one of which is Health Care. ASCX12 has been named the standard setting body by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for Administrative Health Care Exchanges. For more information see www.x12.org
	HL7 - Health Level Seven International (HL7) is a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited standards developing organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information that supports clinical practice and the management, delivery and evaluation of health services. 	NCPDP - National Council for Prescription Drug Programs National Council for Prescription Drug Programs is a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited, Standards Development Organization which creates and promotes the transfer of data related to medications, supplies, and services within the healthcare system through the development of standards and industry guidance. For more information see www.ncpdp.org.
	WEDI - Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange - WEDI's core purpose is to improve the quality of healthcare through effective and efficient information exchange and management. They provide forums for facilitating improvement in information exchange, definition of standards, resolution of implementation issues and training. For more information see www.wedi.org.
	EHNAC - The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission -EHNAC's accreditation services assist in improving business processes. As an independent, self governing organization is positioned to guide the healthcare transaction industry through sound and practical standards. See their website at www.ehnac.org.
